Yes something like that. I'm in no rush. but i get paid in a couple of weeks so it wont be long before i get the next bits. After that i will get the hard disks. One SSD and one normal. Load windows onto the SSD one. Makes the machine that bit quicker on loading.

then i will get optical drive and heatsink, then motherboard, then CPU.

Get PSU and heatsink first so you can put them on Q6600 and then transfer them to the new pc when built. Yes most heatsinks will fit on both Q6600 and i5 2500k, mine for instance (small show off).

Looking at prices i think i can get

  • Heatsink
  • 2TB Harddisk
  • optical Drive
  • Ram

together.

I've been down the SSD road dude, its completely pointless for what you'll spend on a decent amount of space

Eco Green HDD. I am alergic to anything that says Eco Green. My old PSU was supposed to be Green Power and it blew up when i upgraded my cpu to Q6600. I don't want my components to work at limited speed in this case 5400 rpm just because i wanna be eco. Fuck that when i play BC2 the last thing im thinking about is how many trees i am destroying. I want a proper 7200 rpm disk even if it takes a bit more power. Besides companies usually use green as a marketing trick. When the first 3TB disks came out (same for any other above 1TB) they were all 5400 and called green power. The technology at that time didn't allow drives to operate at 7200 rpm at that capacity. I know the drive speed difference is really minimal and they are cheaper but when it comes to handpicking components i want perfection and eco green isnt optimal. In my head.

However it says it performs as well as a 7200 rpm disk

It probably does. The performance difference is most likely hard to detect unless you are using some synthetic tests. I would still go for some 7200 drive like seagate 7200.12 which i own. But thats just me and my obsession.

hmmmmm but sacrificing alittle speed for an extra terrabyte seems worth it. Specially as you said the speed difference is hardly noticable. I saw a 3TB one there by western digital for the same price.

For samsung 2 TB HDD price difference between Eco-green and normal is very little (few pounds max), but if u really want 'to save the nature' u can buy eco-green (btw i would/will never buy this shit just like Dragan said)

what you think for the price

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

its not an F4 - but as denis said i cant find a 1TB F4. And even if there was one i reckon it would be £70+.

Of the F4's i can only see these green ones at 5400rpms.

If i had to chose between those two i would go for the F3 despite the fact that i have exactly the same seagate as the one you linked. The thing is 61 pounds is way too much for this drive. I paid around 50 euros almost a year ago. You cannot miss with spinpoint F3. Infact its really hard to miss anything no matter what drive you buy. We are all just neatpicking. But i like that.

not about the cheapest one. I want a quality one. I'm prepared to spend fora good disk, good psu, good motherboard and good cpu.

i already know whcih motherboard to get. Lovely board. The psu i know, the heatsink i know, the ram i know, everything else is cool. Already got a DVD writer coming. Even bought a half decent mouse which im using already.

Morph has felt the force of this mouse in bc2 last night lol.

Think i will just get a cheaper Z68 board. Getting the black one is too much cost specially when i have to get a cpu and hd6950 at some point.

Bah!!

Re: Graphics Card

Post  sirlean on Thu Oct 06, 2011 10:55 pm

ok

Progress so far :-

Corsair Graphite case (this case is bigger than i thought it would be.
Corsair XM3 8gb Ram
Samsung F3 Spinpoint 1TB harddisk
Optical DVD +-RW drive
Thermaltake Frio heatsink (this thing is massive)

Next
PSU (not sure at the moment which one i will get. Choice is OCZ modxstream 700w or a Corsair enthusiasts tx650 or tx750) Furthermore i'm starting to think non-modular cos for the money of a modular one i can get a more powerful non-modular one.

Motherboard (Deciding on whether go get a higher end Gigabyte board like a Z68XP-UD3-XXX or the Z68A-D3-XX which is like 50quid cheaper in some cases.)

CPU (leaving this till last cos this is gonna cost me about 160 to get.)

GPU (will have to get something like the HD6950, but i wnt be able to afford it anytime soon, so i will put my HD5570 in for the meantime.) - wont be able to play BF3 on full, but i'm hoping it will run on medium until i can get my nice shiney 6950 or better depending on price.

Nice, getting there. Don't expect playing BF3 on medium tho with 5570. My first hopes would be if its gonna work on playable frame rates on any settings at all.
