Lightning never strikes twice? BS!

Post  theRizzler on Thu May 12, 2011 11:02 pm

Yep. 2 weeks after I get my new PC.

My house was hit by lightning 2 nights ago, and my new PC was fried. Son of a fucking bitch. All I know for sure right now is that the PSU is fried. I'm ordering a new one today, and after I get it I'll be able to tell what other components are ruined. So I could be down for a week or a few months depending on the damage.

Hate to say it twice in one post, but.. Son of a fucking bitch.

Damn Rizz...Son of a Fucking Bitch! I definately would use surge protection, but that isnt always a failsafe either for instance last spring I had 2 fairly new Television sets get fried because the damned lightening came through my cable tv wire even though I had some high dollar surge protectors on them. So I can feel your pain there bro.

Yes. All of my electronic items are hooked up to surge protectors. Apparently that doesn't bother lightning too much. The breaker on the surge protector didn't even shut off, but it sent enough current to at least fry my PSU.

I'm not taking any risks from now on, I'll be using UPS instead of just a surge protector, and running all my ethernet cables through it as well. As Draks pointed out, any wire meant to transmit data is merely transmitting electricity. And they can all overload.

Something like that, yes. Uninterrupted Power Supply is what it stands for.
