Mine will look exactly like this when finished, except it will be black case. It almost has exactly the same specs aswell. Only he has i7 2600k and double the ram.

Even music is your type. But yeah you will sooner or later have to buy a new monitor. This should actually be your next buy after you are done with 6870 crossfire. That much horsepower should never be used on a tiny thingy that you have now. He has a proper monitor.

Two cards definitely have alot more power. I didn't check any tests but im certain that is the case. But then again 6970 can be upgraded in the future to a crossfire as well. It go for 2x 6870 anyway.

i reading up on this, and people saying that it is better to go for

1 * 2GB HD6970/50 rather than 2 * 1GB HD6870/50

because of the AMD software issues with crossfire, the heat generated from 2 cards instead of one, the noise, the power consumption from 2 cards instead of 1.

I dont have an issue with power as i have a 750w bronze standard psu. But is the performance of 2 6870s better than 1 6970.

Money-wise, its no more expensive or cheaper, so either is viable. But then as you rightly said, i could get a 2nd 6970 and be future proof later on.

Also it is recommended to go for the HIS branded HD6970 as its least noisiest. I have read however that 2 HD6870s out perform a HD6950, and that a HD6970 is just an overclocked HD6950.

Noise is the only thing that would bother me. If you go for the silent cards it shouldnt be a problem anyway since your case is probably noise isolated.

As you said, you get more performance for the money by going crossfire than buying a single top end card. Drawbacks are heat, noise and power consumption. Then again look at it this way. Your whole computer is made for such things. You have excellent cooling, excellent case and more than sufficient enough PSU. So i say go for the crossfire. There are driver issues sometimes but as far as i know, crossfire and sli have evolved so much over the past years that this should really be no problem anymore.

i cant help thinking, that i should get 1 6970 and add another later. That will be better than having 2 6870's there and then having to get rid of them. hmmm

Hmmm, looking at 7870 more than the 7850. The 6970 is the same or beats the 7850. A good card, but i think its now out of the 6970 and the 7870. Have a look at this.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

My only thing is i want a card NOW! i dont know how available the 7870 is as i've looked on a few sites and its usually priced somewhere closer to 280-300 pounds for OC versions. I know i can get a HD6970 for under 250 pounds. And its vitually the same card other than the new architecture and power consumption.

My OCZ 750w should cope with the HD6970.

This card is the shit!!! absolutely eats up BF3 with ease! No lag, nothing. Lovely. Will definitely get a 2nd card a couple months down the line. Its not even noisy. No more noisy than the fans i already have in my hude case.
